Forest Farm Peace Garden aims to improve mental health and wellbeing through permaculture gardening. Our key areas are:
- Ecotherapy – a Social and Horticultural Therapy Programme
- Permaculture gardening (LAND site)
We also have special workshops such as mosaic making, hedge laying, composting, and art days. And finally, we run larger community open days. For instance, our popular World Music Day and Abundance Day attract hundreds of people every year, from across Redbridge and East London.
Wednesdays and Fridays are focused on ecotherapy. Spending time being outdoors in nature has been shown to reduce symptoms like depression and anxiety, and improve mental health. And ecotherapy is a simple and effect route towards putting the ‘5 ways to wellbeing’ into practice. The 5 ways to wellbeing are straightforward things we can all do to improve our mental health:
- Connect with other people
- Be active
- Take notice of the world
- Keep learning, and
- Give to others.

Teaching and learning
In addition to our weekly gardening programme, we often run special events such as workshops (composting, mosaic making etc). And we have big Open Days where we invite the public in for a party. You can see details from some of our events on our events page. Sign up for our newsletter if you’d like us to keep you posted!
